Just a few days ago, rumors surfaced about San Diego FC’s alleged interest in Club America star Diego Valdes. Now, we’ve gone from speculation to official news.
Recently, the Chrome and Azul team announced the signings of CJ dos Santos, Andres Reyes, and Christopher McVey.
Now, we have official confirmation of the addition of a veteran player with extensive Major League Soccer experience.
San Diego FC signs Anibal Godoy from Nashville SC
San Diego FC have announced the signing of veteran midfielder Anibal Godoy as they continue to shape their squad ahead of their MLS debut in 2025.
The 34-year-old Panamanian international has signed a deal through 2025, with club options for 2026 and 2027.
Godoy, a free agent, brings extensive MLS experience, having played 212 matches with San Jose Earthquakes and Nashville SC, contributing eight goals and 19 assists.
He also holds a U.S. green card, meaning he will not take up an international roster slot, a crucial detail for roster flexibility.
“Anibal is a proven midfielder with experience at the highest level who brings valuable depth to our midfield,” said SDFC sporting director Tyler Heaps.
“His leadership as Panama’s captain and familiarity with an expansion side make him a key addition to our team.”
With 143 caps for Panama, including an appearance at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Godoy’s signing bolsters San Diego’s midfield, which already features Heine Gikling Bruseth and Jeppe Tverskov.
How did Anibal Godoy perform in the 2024 MLS season?
Anibal Godoy played 23 matches during the 2024 MLS season with Nashville. He started in 17 of those 23 games, averaging 61 minutes per match. He recorded one goal and three assists.
