San Diego FC continues to make official announcements ahead of the start of the 2025 MLS season, which will mark their inaugural campaign.
Recently, SDFC revealed their picks from the MLS SuperDraft, securing several top-tier young prospects.
Prior to this, San Diego FC had already announced some agreements from the MLS Expansion Draft, including the signing of Andrés Reyes, among others.
Now, the team, which will be managed by Mikey Varas, has made another official announcement. However, this time it’s not about a signing but rather a match scheduled to take place in 2025.

San Diego FC to face Xolos Tijuana in 2025 friendly match
San Diego FC and Club Tijuana have officially announced the details for their highly anticipated 2025 annual friendly match, part of a multi-year partnership between the two clubs.
The inaugural match of this collaboration, presented by Modelo, is scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. PT, and will take place at Snapdragon Stadium.
The friendly will be included in the 2025 SDFC Season Ticket Memberships, ensuring that season ticket holders have the chance to experience this exciting bi-national rivalry.
Xolos fans will also have ample ticket availability, with additional single-game ticket details set to be announced soon. Tickets for all SDFC matches in 2025 will go on sale in early January.

This partnership aims to celebrate the unique football culture of the San Diego-Tijuana region, bringing fans from both sides of the border together.
Holding the match on Mexican Independence Day, September 16, further highlights the cultural significance of the event.
However, the match’s timing has raised some eyebrows, as it falls in the midst of a busy stretch for San Diego FC.
The friendly is set just two days after hosting Minnesota United and five days before traveling to face Atlanta United.
This tight schedule has led to speculation about whether SDFC will field a rotated lineup for the Xolos clash, especially if the team is in the thick of the playoff race at that point in the season.
Balancing the friendly with the competitive demands of MLS will be a challenge for head coach Mikey Varas and his squad.
What are the first games of San Diego FC in the MLS 2025 season?
San Diego FC will kick off their MLS campaign on February 23, 2025, against LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. Their first home match will be on March 1 against St. Louis CITY SC at Snapdragon Stadium.
SDFC will then travel to face Real Salt Lake on March 8, before returning to San Diego to host Columbus Crew on March 15. The team will finish this early stretch of the season with a trip to Austin FC on March 23 at Q2 Stadium.
