San Diego FC is reportedly in discussions to sign Oleksandr Zubkov, a Ukrainian international currently playing for Shakhtar Donetsk.

According to MLS insider Tom Bogert and quoting GIVEMESPORT, the club has submitted a bid of approximately $5 million. However, Shakhtar is reportedly holding out for a higher fee, and negotiations remain ongoing.

Zubkov, aged 28, has amassed an impressive career. With 36 caps for Ukraine’s national team, he is a proven performer on the international stage.

This season, Zubkov has recorded five goals and five assists in just 768 league minutes. His contributions extend to the Champions League, where he has netted two goals and provided one assist in 457 minutes.

If signed, Zubkov would join as a designated player, a role reserved for top-tier talent in MLS.

His arrival would significantly strengthen San Diego’s attacking options, complementing Mexican international Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano on the opposite flank.

A stellar addition to the squad

Zubkov’s career spans several notable stints. After beginning at Shakhtar Donetsk, he spent successful periods at Ferencvaros and FK Mariupol. His versatility and experience make him a valuable asset for any team.

San Diego FC has already made waves with its acquisitions, but this move signals their ambition to compete at the highest level from the outset.

For now, the club focuses on integrating its recent signings and preparing for the season ahead, leaving us with plenty of reasons to cheer.
