Chucky Lozano is the first Designated Player for a San Diego FC full of ambition ahead of their first MLS season in 2025.
The newest MLS franchise is building a competitive squad around the Mexican winger, aiming to compete from day one.
Tyler Heaps has already confirmed that San Diego will be a major destination for top players. And that’s not the only interesting statement the club’s sporting director has made.
With the recent MLS SuperDraft, in which San Diego FC secured some promising talents, attention is once again turning to the big names in the squad.
For now, Hirving Lozano is the only “star,” but that’s more than enough to keep the fans happy for the time being.

Chucky Lozano crazy to ‘get started’ with San Diego FC
In a recent interview with Golazo America, Tyler Heaps made a statement about Chucky Lozano that SDFC fans will love.
When asked how he plans to ensure that superstars come to San Diego to give their all for the team and not just to collect a paycheck, Heaps made it clear that Lozano is not that kind of player.
Heaps first used Riqui Puig as an example, highlighting how the midfielder has given everything in the last seasons with LA Galaxy, leading them to become champions in 2024.
“I think that’s what’s really important for us to make sure that we get these DPs right. And I think Hirving (Lozano) is a good example,” said first Heaps.
“Hirving’s calling me every day saying, ‘I can’t wait to get started. I can’t wait to get started’. And you saw whenever we announced him, like, there were 10,000 people there chanting his name. I think it means more to him,” he continued.
“You need those people, especially in your DPs, where it means more because you’re creating a culture from scratch.”
Hirving Lozano’s career stats in Europe
