3 Premier League players who would enhance the San Diego FC roster

We’re just days away from entering 2025, and San Diego FC are gearing up to make history in their first MLS season.

While the club’s sporting director, Tyler Heaps, continues to praise Chucky Lozano, the rumors show no sign of slowing down.

Just hours ago, Forbes once again linked San Diego FC as a potential destination for Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

With that in mind, it’s worth taking a look at some Premier League stars who could undoubtedly elevate SDFC to another level.

1. Manor Solomon

The Israeli winger is currently on loan at Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur and is enjoying a promising resurgence.

After joining Spurs from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023, Solomon failed to convince the London club’s management and was sent out on loan to the Championship side.

There, he has found better form, recording six goal contributions (three goals and three assists) in 16 league matches this season.

With his contract at Tottenham set to expire in 2025, Solomon could be an excellent addition to San Diego FC’s roster, which already features a star of Hirving Lozano’s caliber.

2. Tom Cairney

Tom Cairney is a standout player for Fulham and has been part of the club since 2015.

The 33-year-old Scottish midfielder has spent his entire career in English football. He was transferred to Fulham in 2015.

Cairney is a versatile player who can perform in practically any midfield position. He has experience playing as an attacking midfielder, a central midfielder, and even as a defensive midfielder.

He is a true wildcard for the midfield of any team.

If he’s still at Fulham, currently in the Premier League, and has never been sold despite the team’s ups and downs, it’s because he has always been a key player for the club on a sporting level.

With a contract set to expire in 2025, which was recently renewed in January 2024, Cairney could be a great opportunity for San Diego FC to secure a free transfer.

Most likely, he wouldn’t need to be signed as a designated player and would bring a wealth of experience.

3. Kevin De Bruyne

We’re confident that he’s the player everyone wants to see at San Diego FC—at least all the fans of the Snapdragon Stadium residents.

The experienced 33-year-old Belgian’s contract with Manchester City expires on June 30, 2025, making him a financially attractive option.

Kevin De Bruyne has been linked to San Diego FC for months, and as we mentioned earlier in the article, Forbes recently named him again as a potential signing for the club.

We still have to wait a few weeks, or possibly even months, to know if De Bruyne will finally make his way to San Diego.

But without a doubt, it would be a fantastic signing. There are countless positive things to say about this potential transfer, though the only downside might be that, hypothetically, if De Bruyne were to leave SDFC two or three years after joining, the team would struggle immensely to adapt without a player of his level.
